This blog is for JRN 301: Journalism 24/7, my fall 2009 class at Stony Brook University. My thoughts are probably boring, unoriginal, sometimes rambling and otherwise outlandish. Not recommended reading unless you love alliteration and boggled thoughts about current events in the media business.
I’m Brian Shultz. I’m a journalism major at Stony Brook University. I hold an associate’s degree in journalism from Suffolk County Community College. While most of my current studies involve the more standard practices of modern mainstream journalism, my focus and activity dwells on music journalism — bands you will probably never hear and maybe never care to. To that end, you can read my freelance work in Alternative Press; or, perhaps, my frequent reviews and, to a lesser extent, news contributions to Punknews.org at said web address, where I’m one of a half-dozen news editors and the site’s sole reviews editor.
Think about a final project relating to music journalism. How do the sites you’re involved with create community? Would you say they are journalistic sites, or that they strive to be?
Great blog, Brian. I like the tone of the posts, their frequency, your engagement with the issues. Plus, you passed the pop quiz! I guess you could say I’m pretty, pretty, pretty pleased with your work in this class.
